Types of Sublimation Printing Dye
Source:ZS Machinery Time:2016-08-16 Click:64 Times
Sublimation printing uses disperse dyes, because they are the only class that vaporises at transfer temperature and bonds with a synthetic fibre.
In production you meet them in three forms:
- Inkjet sublimation ink. Supplied in bottles or cartridges for digital printers. The normal choice for short runs, samples and photographic work.
- Disperse dye for offset or gravure printing. Used to print large volumes of transfer paper. Lower cost per square metre on long runs.
- Paste disperse dye. Screen printed onto transfer paper when heavy colour coverage is needed.
The dye needs a synthetic fibre to bond with. On polyester it gives excellent wash and light fastness; on blends the depth of colour depends on the polyester content. Cotton, silk and wool will not take sublimation dye at all.
